I was fourteen years old...
...when I designed my first sketch, It was 1994. Picture a lime green skirt with a thigh high split, a long sleeve white blouse with French cuffs, tied at the waste. Don't forget the coordinating lime lapels. Can you imagine!!! I was so proud of my first sketch, my first attempt of drawing a feminine silhouette. It was the moment I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my days creating and bringing my vision of beauty to fruition.
Decades later (slight pause for acceptance) I am doing just that.
I began my fashion journey as a dresser for the Congressional Black Caucus Fashion Show while attending Howard University. By my sophomore year she was hired to coordinate the Spring Black Arts Festival Fashion Show. After moving to New York and attending FIT, she became visual merchandising manager and trainer for Banana Republic and H&M traveling between stores from New Jersey, Manhattan, and Brooklyn. Once leaving the retail arena, Love expanded her fashion experience working for and with notable companies such as New York Fashion Week, Cotton Inc, Teen People, and more. Her work as a designer and stylists have been featured in Essence magazine, Ceremony magazine, Vogue.com, Glamour, E! Fashion Police, NY Daily News, and more. Collins even served as Style Editor for LA Focus Newspaper during her return to California.
With my 20 year career in fashion I recently re-entered the retail space as curator for CJ2w/Love (@cj2wlove), a young contemporary division geared toward a 20 something to 40+ style muse featuring exclusive ready -to- wear and one of kind pieces. CJ2 is the second generation of CJ’s Elegance.. CJ’s Elegance and CJ2w/Love are the premier shopping destinations for the Windsor Hills – View Park and surrounding communities.
I am blessed. I know my ample supply of creativity and vision comes from my Heavenly Father. It is my pleasure to serve each of my clients and build a luxe brand that makes bridal, apparel, and accessories accessible to all women.
