Where The Winds Have Blown Me

Day #2: "Something Treasured" in one word = Perspective

California: Loving
Howard University: Learning
I Heart NY: Living

Dear Lovelies,

When I look at my life, all 32 years of glory, I have to give credit to these great states.

"California: Loving".
It's where I was born and raised, where my family is, where "everything" began. It is the thread of my life. I have to treasure what is core, what is my foundation, what has made me the woman and thoughts that I am today. Whether good, bad, or indifferent. I am at a point where I can "count it ALL joy". Its where this little black girl became a BIG dreamer.

Howard University: Learning
Ode to the Mecca, The Hilltop, The Real HU. What an experience. Howard represents learning on so many levels. Learning to understand people, cultures, roots, business. Howard is the greatest university experience anyone can hope to gain. Education happened in my fine arts classes, on the yard, during my first fashion job for The Congressional Black Caucus Fashion Show. It happened in my dorm, Meridian Hill (aka The Ebony Sex Palace) Scandalous!! It was happening all around me. In essence I have gained a greater "perspective" of what education is. A Howard education was and is opportunity, access, and responsibility. I can't forget, this is where Chalise  became Love Collins. (Stay tuned for Day 30 & 31 for those details)

I Heart NY: Living
New York is in my spirit. I am an adopted daughter to mother Brooklyn. I remember the first time I visited New York. One holiday weekend at Howard, Lauren "Daisy" Lewellyn and I, packed our cutest totes for the cheap 4 hour bus ride from DC. As the bus peaked its nose out of the Lincoln tunnel, and my eyes locked in on that famous skyline, I cried. I was no more than 19 or 20 years old, but I felt like the little black girl with big city dreams. "I did it!" I met one of the greatest loves of my life. WOW, its true, and I remember it like it was yesterday. That overwhelming feeling of knowing when something is meant to be.

I love the people, the streets, the food, the art, the music, and of course my destiny with fashion. Hello Lover!!! New York is living to me because it represents freedom and most importantly a creative freedom. Its a pulse, a color, a sound, vibration. My design aesthetic is "color + shape + texture" these words represent my emotions and my memories of the great state of New York. Don't worry loves, this little black girl will be back...

Totally Obsessed xoxo Love
